RONYA

I am an artist since 2016, finished Tallinn's Art Gymnasium, Tallinn's Art School and graduated from Pallas University of Applied Sciences, Department of Media Design. Still in search of my true art-flow, but still have some things to share.
In my free time I play videogames and like to analyze its different aspects and aspects of art. Hoping to get experience in videogame industry, character design, help queer community and make my own comic(s). Not interested in using generative AI in my work.

My childhood apartment hadn't much space for doing big traditional work, let alone finding space for storing them, so mostly I was able to express myself trough graphic tablet and old laptop. I remember the time when I got my first and only graphic tablet and since the I never stopped exploring my style and trying out different techniques. Digital art truly shaped me as an artist, sometimes not in a positive way. Since I am able to redo a lot in digital, sometimes I am boxing myself too much into correct ways of structuring my work process and ending up not liking the result. Even to this day I'm searching for my comfort place on digital canvas.

Russia's big Invasion on Ukraine starting at the same day of Estonia's independence day, cuts deeper in my mind. I hope nobody will experience loss or tragedy on their birthday.

Probably the most proper character design I've done. And I am proud of it. Character is inspired by performers, mainly clowns, on stilts and how creepy they look.

New day and new painpoint. Invisible pain that is hard to describe and hard to pinpoint, but its there and can affect daily life.
One of the first comic tries. Although I would have made some changes now, I still like how it turned out.
Although rarely, but for some reason I like doing little 3-panel-long comics. Hopefully i manage to get my hands on my big comic project that I've been thinking for some time now.

War contains pain and loss which the land and it's people carries for centuries.

That long-wanted freedom could be still inches from one's reaching. Can it be reached at all or how can one define when it finally reached? I guess, one should found ontheir own.
One of the first creative works I've done. I usually don't draw or paint something that would reflect my inner world, so this one is one of the first. Reflecting my original character's worries, although their story change a bit since then.

Since I've started to live in Tartu to study in Pallas, at first I've panicked a lot since it's my first time living independently let alone in another city. But as time passed by, I've started to love the dorm more than my childhood apartment. When i saw this view on one late summer evening, I've realized that it is truly my life's turning point. I know that at some point i need to leave, leaving this chapter to an end, but thats another story.

A hardly describable feeling of overflowing thoughts and feeling. Sometimes you think that a shot in a head will help (not in suicidal sence).

Dont judge a book by its cover.

Gay thoughts.

Probably most artist start with a simple pencil and paper and that's not an exception for me. Although any big projects couldn't be made, since I didn't have physical room for them. So most of the bigger works were done within art school walls.

Boxing myself for others liking.
First thought-trough self-portrait. I love green-pink combo.

Represent a cycle that I had to go through constantly during high school years. A depressive cycle when a person was able to finally get out of awful state of mind, but after some time they will fell into it again. And the cycle continues.
First step in becoming an artist - let it all out.

Paintings that doesn't have any deep meaning nor message in them, but they still played a big role in how I use brushes and colors. In traditional paintings I like to use my finger and bright colors to make accents which allows freedom of expression. In digital artworks I'm trying to be more technical and trying different techniques in painting and coloring.

During high school years I used to draw in my sketchbook constantly. One of the things i was doing were gluing random stuff and include them in overall composition. Unfortunately I don't have time to do similar stuff now, but I sometimes want to get back to filling my sketchbooks.

I graduated Pallas University of Applied Sciences with my work "Estonian Mythology Character Design". There I researched Estonian mythology, folklore and art and made some concept arts with my own Interpretation of some mythological characters. I think folklore art and culture is an great source of inspiration for graphic design even in modern age. Characters are form my comic project that is also inspired by Estonian mythology.

I always loved to make silly characters and I started to think about making a comic, maybe a few of them, and using my original characters there. I don't have any professional character design sheets, all I can share are some unorganized sketches :)

All of the works were done within Pallas University of Applied Sciences Media Design Department program and are not actual client commissioned works. The works are done for study purposes. All the used materials are free or bought by the school.

Glea is my first proper and thought-trough font. It is inspired by Estonian old bookcase decorative titles. If I ever gonna make a comic that I was thinking on doing, then hopefully this font will be there

My first ever try in logo design and mock-up. Although probably not the most professional, but it was a lot of fun and I still like how it turned out to this day.

Tried to make dramatic/contrast lightning into abstract shapes that mimic EETEAL letters. Playing around with the logo you can make interesting patterns for merchandise designs that wont look too bland and boring.

Playful design for roof selling brand Katus Peale. More fun focused approach, since the name "Katus Peale"(roof on/put the roof on) is quite playful sounding.

A small collection of my animation and video works. I'm still new to animation and video subjects, but through years i made some progress.

Short film about overthinking. Short film is trying to illustrate the feeling and image of what happening in persons head when they overtink.
Short animation about selfexpression and fitting into society. The time will come when a person find their own unique identity. It takes to find a different kind of courage and strength inside yourself, in order to stand out in a monotonous crowd. The more distinctive individuals you see in a homogenous society, the more courageous others will be to stand out.
Short animation that was made for my high school research project. I was invested in animation subject and wanted to do frame-by-frame animation, also it is a redo of my earlier done animation work where I explored puppet animation.
Other small animation practices with different techniques.

Recently I've got interested in photography and bought a camera. Right now I am at the stage of getting to know it better and I've got some interesting works done on the way.
